DIY Natural Clove Mouthwash
Share
A simple, natural way to freshen breath.
What is Clove Mouthwash?
Cloves are aromatic dried flower buds from the clove tree and have been used for centuries in natural remedies and oral care. They contain powerful natural compounds that help freshen breath and support a healthy mouth.
This simple clove rinse is something I personally love because it’s minimal, natural, and easy to make at home.
Benefits of Clove Mouthwash
Why cloves are amazing for oral care:
🌿 Freshens breath naturally
🌿 Naturally antibacterial
🌿 May help soothe irritated gums
🌿 Supports overall oral hygiene
Cloves naturally contain compounds that have antimicrobial properties, which is why they’ve historically been used in dental remedies.
Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients
You only need a few things:
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 4–5 whole cloves
- (optional) pinch of baking soda for whitening
Tools
- small cup or jar
- strainer
- small bottle or container
Step 2: Infuse the Cloves
- Heat water until warm (not boiling).
- Add 4–5 whole cloves to the water.
- Let them sit for 10–15 minutes so the clove oils infuse into the water.
Your water will start to smell spicy and fresh.
Step 3: Strain
Once infused:
- Strain the cloves out.
- Pour the liquid into a small bottle or cup.
Your natural mouthwash is ready!
Step 4: Optional Whitening Boost ✨
If you’d like a gentle whitening effect:
Add a tiny pinch of baking soda and mix well.
Baking soda can help neutralize acids in the mouth and lightly polish teeth.
(Optional — the mouthwash works great without it too.)
How to Use
Swish the mouthwash in your mouth for 20–30 seconds, then spit out.
You can use it once daily or whenever you want a natural breath refresh.
Shelf Life
Because this recipe contains no preservatives, it’s best to:
- keep it in the fridge
- use within 3-4 days
Fresh batches are always best.
